The Império do Espírito Santo da Serreta, is located in the parish of Serreta, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, located in Largo da Igreja.
Its construction dates back to the first quarter of the last century, namely to the year 1922.
In this parish, the cult of the Divine Holy Spirit is celebrated on the eight Sundays after Easter, with emphasis on the two Bodos Sundays – Pentecost and Trindade.
On Pentecost Sunday, the 1st Bodo takes place. On this day, in the morning, the cortege leaves the Emperor’s house, accompanied by the philharmonic, towards the parish church, where a festive coronation mass is celebrated, after which the procession heads to the pantry, where the parish priest he blesses the bread and wine which is then distributed to the people present.
Usually, in the morning, the portfolios that determine who are the emperors of Sundays of the next year are drawn.
In the 1st Bodo, the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th Sundays are drawn.
On the 2nd Bodo, Trinity Sunday, the activities that took place on the first Bodo are carried out again, and the portfolios for the even-numbered Sundays for the following year are extracted.
After this ceremonial, the procession goes to the Emperor’s house, or another place, where a function is served to his guests. This lunch/function consists of the traditional soups of the
Espírito Santo, stew, rump and sweet rice. This also includes wine, juices, milk bread and sovada dough.
After the lunch/function, during which the insignia of the Divine
Espírito Santo, towards the end of the afternoon, the procession returns to form and moves to the empire for the second part of the bodo, where people coexist and go snacking on the “food and drinks” that are found on various tables intended for this purpose.
During this conviviality, the traditional auctions of massa sovada, alfenim, sweet rice, pastry dough, etc. take place. The bodos are enlivened by concerts put on by Sociedade Filarmónica Recreio Serretense.
