Império do Espírito de Santo de São José de Santa Luzia

The Império do Espírito de Santo de São José de Santa Luzia, is located in the parish of Santa Cruz, municipality of Praia da Vitória, located in Canada de Santa Luzia.

The date of its construction dates back to the first quarter of the 20th century, to the year 1904. This brotherhood celebrates the feast of the Divine Holy Spirit on Pentecost and Trinity Sundays. In all the parishes of “Ramo Grande”, on the eight Sundays following Easter, the cult of the Divine Holy Spirit is celebrated, with greater prominence, for the Sundays of Bodo – Pentecost and Trinity.

On the Sundays of the bodos, the processions of the Holy Spirit leave the house of the brothers who have the insignia for these two weeks, accompanied by a philharmonic band, and head to the Church, where the coronation party mass is celebrated.

After this liturgical act, the processions move towards the empire, where the crowns and flags are deposited and the parish priest blesses the bread and wine, which are then distributed to all those present.

At the end of the afternoon, there is the fair, where tables are set with various snacks, massa sovada, drained broad beans, lupins, wine and juices, which are served to those present, while they fraternize and socialize and the auctions of the offers are carried out, whose proceeds revert to the empire.

In the bodos, Sundays are drawn and butlers are appointed for the following year. On these days, depending on the financial availability of the imperial commission, there may be a philharmonic concert, a performance by a popular music group, or by an artist invited for this purpose, etc.
