Império do Espírito Santo da Agualva

The Império do Espírito Santo da Agualva, is located in the parish of Agualva, municipality of Praia da Vitória, located in the existing square in front of the Parish Church of Nossa Senhora do Guadalupe.

The date of its construction dates back to the 19th century, to the year 1873. This empire celebrates the cult of the Third Person of the Holy Trinity on Pentecost Sunday, the first bodo, and Trinity Sunday, the second bodo.

On the days of the bodo, the processions of the Holy Spirit take place to the parish church, where the solemn coronation mass is celebrated. At the end of this liturgical act, the procession for the empire follows, and bread and wine are distributed among the people present.

Then, the so-called “Função do Espírito Santo” takes place, in which the traditional soups of the Holy Spirit, stew, rump, wine and juice are served to all guests. The meal ends with the so-called sweet rice.

In the afternoon, some cars with awnings can be seen next to the churchyard, the so-called “carros do bodo”. In the camp, the people present coexist and snack to the sound of the philharmonic concerts.

On the days of the bodos, the Empire and the pantry are open for people to pay their promises to the Divine Holy Spirit, which generally consist of offering money or items that are then sold.

Many of the alms are made with the traditional alfenim. Finally, the portfolios are removed and stewards are appointed for the following year.
