The Império do Espírito Santo da Boa Hora is located in the parish of Terra Chã, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.
It was built in the second half of the 20th century, in 1958. Although this empire was built in that year, the Brotherhood’s parties were already held earlier, at the beginning of the century, with a collapsible structure, made of wood. The empire celebrates its festival in honor of the Divine Holy Spirit on the second Sunday after the Bodo da Trindade.
Like the other empires, the festival program of this brotherhood depends, in terms of the richness and diversity of cultural activities, on the financial resources acquired by the commission of the empire for this purpose. The celebration of this ancient cult of the Divine begins with the procession of the change of the crown and other insignia of the Holy Spirit, to the empire, accompanied by some musicians from the parish’s philharmonic.
This is followed by the rosary which is prayed, in the empire, at the end of the afternoon, every day of the week. Brothers and other people who wish to do so can participate in this pious act. On Thursday, the supper of the creators of the empire takes place and, whenever possible, there is a pezinho and respective singing, in the afternoon.
At night, there is lighting and there is usually a bazaar and a small tavern, whose proceeds revert to the empire. The following day, there is a recitation of the rosary, lighting and a performance by a popular music ensemble. On Saturday morning, bread is distributed throughout the parish.
This Brotherhood does not usually distribute pensions of meat to the brothers. In the afternoon, the empire is open to receive the brotherhoods paid by the brothers and the alfenim offerings donated by the brothers and other people. At night, there is lighting and a performance by a group/musical group and/or artist invited by the committee.
On Sunday morning, the procession leaves Largo do Império, accompanied by the parish philharmonic, to the parish church, where a festive mass is celebrated, followed by the coronation.
After this liturgical act, the procession returns again to the empire, where the insignia of the Divine Holy Spirit are deposited and, shortly thereafter, the appointment of the procurator for the next year is made. The outgoing attorney goes to the residence of the person who will replace him in those functions the following year and hands him the crown of the Holy Spirit and then the two return, accompanied by the aforementioned musicians to the empire.
In the afternoon, the alfenim received in payment of promises is distributed to the parish, reverting the donations of the people who receive this sweet, in favor of the empire. At night, the piles are extracted for the Sundays of the following year. Only siblings can apply for them.
