Império do Espírito Santo da Rua do Conde da Praia da Vitória

The Império da Rua do Conde da Praia da Vitória, is located in the parish of Santa Luzia, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, located on the aforementioned street in the aforementioned parish.

It is a property built in the second half of the 19th century, namely in the year 1871. This brotherhood celebrates its feast in honor of the Divine Holy Spirit on the so-called Pentecost Sunday.

The festival program of this empire is made up of a religious part and a recreational/cultural part. The richness and variety of activities that form the program of these festivities, especially those in the cultural area, depend, from year to year, on the budget available for this purpose.

The festivities in praise of the Divine Holy Spirit, promoted by this brotherhood, begin on the previous Sunday with the change of crown to the Empire and end on the Monday following Pentecost Sunday. From Monday to Saturday, the rosary is recited/sung by various groups from the parish and, eventually, by an outside group invited for this purpose.

The recitation of the rosary is open to all people who intend to participate in this act. During the week, the “Creators’ Supper” is held, the blessing of the meat and its distribution among the brothers.

Usually on Thursdays, in the afternoon, the traditional pezinho takes place and, at night, the singing to the challenge. The following day, the meat offerings are delivered in front of the empire.

Throughout the week there is lighting and festival, concerts by different musical groups, bazaar and auctions. On the Sunday of the feast, the day of Pentecost, there is a concentration of children next to the empire, leaving the procession for the parish church where the solemn mass and the coronation are celebrated.

At night, the portfolios are extracted and the Commission for the following year is appointed. On the last day, Monday, the so-called milk bodo takes place.
