The Império do Espírito Santo de São Bartolomeu is located in the parish of São Bartolomeu, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, located in Terreiro (Largo Dr. Corte-Real and Amaral).
It is a property built in the last quarter of the 19th century, namely in 1875, which celebrates the cult of the Divine Holy Spirit on Pentecost and Trinity Sundays.
The butlers for the Feasts of Pentecost and Trinity Sunday are the same. During the week that precedes the respective Sundays of the feasts, the prayer of the recitation of the rosary to the Divine Holy Spirit is recited in the empire.
On the Friday before Pentecost and Trinity Sundays, alms of bread, wine and meat are blessed in the terreiro, which are then distributed to the brothers. This act is enlivened by the philharmonic and folkloric group.
On Pentecost and Trinity Sundays, the coronation eucharist is celebrated, followed by the coronation procession in the terreiro square, according to tradition with three turns around the terreiro. On the Sundays following the procession, tables are set up in the yard with various delicacies.
In the middle of the afternoon, the butlers nominate their successors for the following year. On the Tuesday after Pentecost Sunday and the Saturday after Trinity Sunday, bullfights are held.
