Ilhéus das Cabras

Ilhéus das Cabras

Due of violent underwater eruptions, the Ilhéus das Cabras result from a small initial circular island, divided in two by the movements of the active fault that cuts it and by the erosive activity of the sea. The presence of beautiful caves on its abrupt cliffs, made these peculiar islets a hiding place for pirates, a point of attack on galleons and a scene of skirmishes in world conflicts. Cagarro sanctuary and small paradise for garajauspombos-da-rocha (rock pigeons) and maçaricos-galegos (galician tortoises), the Ilhéus das Cabras also have dozens of species of fish on their coast, including the spectacular ratões-águia in their caves.
