This church initially named Igreja de Santo Inácio de Loyola (Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola) became known as Igreja do Colégio (Church of the College) because it belonged to the Jesuit College. This church, from the mid-17th century, is considered a good example of the missionary spirit of the missionaries of the Company of Jesus, the Jesuits. The austerity on the outside is typical of the Plain Architecture style, which contrasts with the interior that has examples of Portuguese Mannerist and Baroque carved wood, paintings by Portuguese masters, Portuguese and Dutch painted tiles, an abundance of painted figures, and a beautiful litter for the image of Our Lady of the Assumption. It is owned by the Ordem Terceira do Carmo (Third Order of Carmo).
