The Império do Espírito Santo do Arco, is located in the parish of São Bento, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, located in the town of Vale de Linhares, next to the society.
It is a property whose construction dates back to the middle of the last century, namely to the year 1951. The Império do Arco has 27 crowns of the Holy Spirit and three flags. The festival always takes place on the first Sunday of August.
In the period that precedes the Sunday of the coronation, (a week before the day of the feast) the “Supper of the Creators” takes place, the daily prayer of the rosary, performances by folk groups, musical groups, the traditional tocata and cantata of the little foot , singing with various singers/improvisers from Terceira Island and the distribution of sweet dough to the inhabitants of the parish.
During these days, there are lighting and bazaar. On Sunday, the coronation procession leaves Império do Arco, accompanied by a philharmonic band and heads towards the Ermida de S. Luis, where the festive coronation mass is celebrated. In the afternoon of that same day, the butlers for the next year are appointed. The following Monday, after working hours, at 7 pm, the traditional milk bodo takes place and the night is filled with performances by musical groups. This festive period usually ends with bullfights with ropes that usually take place in the places of “Arco” and “Cambalim”.
